Luxury vinyl tiles are a recent adaptation of vinyl flooring, traditionally installed by sticking the vinyl sheet directly to the subfloor. When transformed into a tile format, this material allows greater design freedom and makes LVT installation much more manageable. If you’re installing LVT safety flooring in Windsor, our domestic and commercial flooring specialists recommend familiarising yourself with the 3 different methods of installation: locking system, glue down, or loosely. The flooring installation experts at our carpet shop have compiled a definitive guide to assist with this so you know what to expect before your project begins.
If you have questions about an upcoming project, please contact us at our Bracknell-based showroom.
Before beginning any flooring installation, the material must acclimate to its new environment. This applies to all hard flooring types, whether anti-slip vinyl or laminate. Although this may sound intimidating, it’s as simple as leaving the tiles in their box in the middle of your chosen room for 48 hours. To ensure the vinyl stays in place when laid, carefully sweep, vacuum, and wash the subfloor after floor levelling, ensuring it is fully dried before installation.
Safety tip: Laying domestic and commercial-grade floors requires kneeling, so our domestic and commercial flooring specialists recommend purchasing quality knee pads before starting your project, whether a woven carpet, safety flooring, or LVT installation.
For a symmetrical floor, our Windsor carpet shop experts start by laying the tiles in the centre of the room. To find the centre, a piece of chalk should be used to mark where the width and length overlap. Without adding the adhesive or peeling the back layer, we ensure the first two tiles are at a right angle to each other, creating an L-shape that lines up with the wall.
Once the tiles are positioned, we begin the flooring installation by sticking them down. Depending on the vinyl flooring you purchased, we peel off the backing or apply a thin layer of adhesive to the floor with an A2 spreader. Once the tiles have been laid, they are bonded to the floor using a roller. Once most tiles are laid, we use a cutting guide to fit the gaps against the wall and complete your installation!
