// Our Carpet Installation Process
Our carpet shop team provide a comprehensive fitting service to all clients across Bracknell, Windsor, Maidenhead, Ascot, and beyond, irrespective of the type of carpet you choose to install. Our process includes the following 6 steps:
1. Room Measuring
Our experts measure the length and width of the room to calculate the square meterage, adding a small amount to each measurement in order to account for variances during fitting and stretching.
2. Room Prepping
The room is prepared for the new installation, with the old flooring removed and responsibly disposed of as part of our focus on reducing landfill and increasing recycling opportunities. Our carpet supply and fit service also includes assistance with moving furniture where necessary.
3. Gripper Rod Installation
Gripper rods (also known as tack strips) are required for most types of carpet installation. Where possible, we reuse existing gripper rods, only replacing those broken or damaged. We make sure that the size of the gripper rods equates to the depth of the underlay. Where a thicker underlay is chosen, the gripper rod depth will be deeper. Most gripper rods are secured by either tape or tacks.
4. Underlay Installation
Underlay is installed perpendicular to the direction in which we plan to lay the carpet. 9mm is the most common thickness for underlay, although depths vary between 6mm and 12 mm. There is also a specific underlay for use with underfloor heating systems. This makes the carpet more comfortable to walk on and prevents it from rippling or bunching up.
5. Carpet Cut and Lay
Before being laid, each piece of carpet is cut to size, adding a small amount extra to allow us space to trim it down at the wall's edge. If a reasonable amount of offcuts are left over, we can provide carpet whipping for clients who wish to create a matching rug or mat.
6. Carpet Stretching
After your new carpet has been laid, a knee kicker and pads are used to force it into the wall, where it will automatically catch on the gripper rod. This process continues until the carpet has been stretched across the whole room.
